School Advisory Meeting Minutes
Year in Review 2013-2014

• Officers serving for the 2013-2014 school year:

• Parent Involvement Policy: This is the Cook Primary School plan for Shared Student Achievement. This plan describes how cook Primary will provide opportunities to improve parent engagement to support student learning. This plan describes the different ways that Cook Primary will support parent engagement and how parents can help plan and participate in activities and events to promote student learning at school and at home. All stakeholders are being asked to review the policy and contribute any suggestions.
• School-Parent Compact:
As part of the Title I, Part a program, students and their families, teachers, and administrators agree to accept the written responsibilities as their part in the partnership to help our students achieve the state's high standards for excellence.If approved by all, the policy will be sent home for parents, student, teacher, and administrator signatures.
• Mr. Folsom discussed PTO, and the new keypads that have been added to several doors around the school for additional safety.
• Mr. Folsom discussed the intruder alert, and how smoothly that was handled.
• Mr. Folsom discussed Parent Compacts being sent home, and steps being taken to achieve 100% signed and returned.
• Mr. Folsom explained Steep testing, and went over the Steep Summary 2012 scores for 1st-5th grade Reading and Math.
• Mr. Folsom discussed additional keypads being added to doors between 2nd grade hall and the lunchroom. PTO will be helping pay for additional keypads.
• Beehive Bash was discussed. Teachers and students were pleased with how it went.
• Mr. Folsom discussed TKES and LKES and how this impacts Cook Primary School. Members were given the standards and rubrics, and Mr. Folsom explained how teachers and administrators were evaluated under new guidelines.
• Parent Night/Movie night was discussed. Members mentioned what fun this activity was, and Mr. Reed suggested possibly incorporating this idea into an outdoor activity at CPS during good weather.
• Mr. Folsom explained each section of CCRPI report, how this measures CPS student achievement; what areas are high, what areas need improvement, and measures in place to help make improvement.
• Mr. Folsom explained about SRI Lexile: converting AR scores from STAR assessments, and what this means for our students. Why these changes are taking place, and how CPS is working to improve Lexile levels and change teacher/ parent perceptions of current test scores.
